Tranquility Bay Closed

Well, since it happened about two weeks ago, it's probably about time I went ahead and posted this. I already posted it elsewhere, so I'll just copy it here, because I'm a lazy fuck and don't feel like writing it again:

Widely hated torture camp Tranquility Bay has closed down. Jamaican government officials have confirmed that the last inmate left the country on 5 January, 2009. All equipment from Tranquility Bay is being sold. It is believed that the closure is due to new passport requirements and illegal loans.

Tranquility Bay was known for abusive tactics to encourage "proper" behaviour in its inmates. Complaints have included physical attack (sometimes resulting in broken bones), sexual assault, and food deprivation (all of which clearly violate articles five and nine of UDHR). Inmates were always taken as children, usually kidnapped with parental approval while they slept. Although inmates were legally required to be given the option of leaving at the age of eighteen, many were unable to, as they could not make arrangements to return home.

Unfortunately, numerous other torture camps still exist. Join NYRA to help close them down as well!

Bush is GONE

George "W. Walker" Bush has finally, after eight years, been kicked out on his pale ass. Let's take a look at his administration's achievements (admittedly helped by an ineffective Congress):

  • The "patriot" act
  • Illegal torture
  • Guantanamo Bay Prison Facility
  • Turning a trade surplus to a deficit
  • The War in Iraq (more important than catching Osama bin Laden!)
  • Ruining the international reputation of the United States

In related news, Barack "ZOMG SAVIOUR OF ALL ZOMG" Obama is now in office as forty-fourth President of the United States. Hopefully he's as good as people think he is. We need it.

Blocked by Websense

A part of my site (system-a108d.fuckingstoner.net if you care) has been blocked by Websense (the only web filter I have access to). It's still up for the rest of the internet. The purpose for it was as a redirect to stupidcensorship.net, an anti-filter site, so it makes sense (oddly, google-forward.fuckingstoner.net, which redirects to Google and makes URL manipulation easier to get access to Google Images, also blocked, still works). Yeah, it's not actually a part of my site, but it is under my domain. Part of domain is blocked by Websense! Nothing except the proxy forwarder is broken, mind. If anyone is willing to set up a PF proxy, I'll change the record, which should be enough to avoid the block.

Also, it's off-topic (deal with it, this is MY corner of the internet), but VOTE TO LOWER THE VOTING AGE AT CHANGE.ORG. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

Vote on change.org

Be sure to vote to lower the voting age to sixteen on change.org. The top ten voted ideas will be presented to President-elect Obama shortly before his inauguration. There's currently only 174 votes for this in round two voting (it got through round one of voting fairly well). However, it's currently in sixty-ninth place and needs 2566 votes just to get to tenth! Remember that other ideas will be voted on as well, so this really needs your vote!
